"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace." For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." Catechism of the Catholic Church #1285
Youth: Beginning in the Fall of 2023, the SES Youth program will use Purpose, the Life Teen transformative approach to Confirmation Preparation. The Purpose curriculum is 24 sessions with a heavy focus on evangelizing young people and accompanying them as they become disciples. The curriculum addresses three big questions, "Why believe in God?", "Why trust Jesus?" and "Why be a part of the Church?".
In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, 10th grade is the "normative" (or, typical) time for students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, but each person differs in when it is the right time for them to enter into formation for this Sacrament. The process of preparing for Confirmation should be prayerfully engaged in at a time when the person and their family are available and ready to commit their time, energy and attention to this special season of spiritual growth.
Adults: Practicing Catholics who missed the Sacrament of Confirmation in their youth can attend a monthly refresher course that begins in March and join adults around the archdiocese for the sacrament on Pentecost Sunday.
